You may have heard about the Better Broadband for Norfolk (BBfN) Project which is facilitating the provision of Superfast Broadband in areas of Norfolk where installation is not commercially viable.
A new communications cabinet (reference BBfN Mulbarton 15) is to be installed in the grass verge, opposite Town Cottage, The Common, Swardeston, (5.5m left of the existing BT pole no 75 and 1.8m back from road edge) to serve residents & businesses in the immediate surrounding area. No date for installation is currently available, however the BBfN Programme is due to complete by the end of March 2020.
You can check to see which BT structure your property is served from and available speeds using the BT Wholesale Line Checker https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm.
Search using the Address Checker option, then enter your postcode, press submit and select your address from the list.
Once a fibre solution is available a “VDSL” option will be shown. Prior to implementation copper based broadband speeds are shown as “ADSL”.
A consultation is underway on The Greater Norwich Local Plan and runs to 15 March 2018. This is your chance to have your say on the future strategic policies and development in the Greater Norwich Area which includes Swardeston.

A major development is planned that will have an impact on Swardeston and other areas around Norwich as the cable route from the wind turbines off the east coast will deliver energy to a substation in the Mangreen area.
DONG Energy, the company developing the wind farm have held a number of consultations and a further one is planned for 4th September 2017 from 15:00 to 19:00 at Swardeston village hall.

There is an annual village meeting every year which is held in May, it is also known as the annual parish meeting. This is NOT a parish council meeting although it is hosted by the parish council it is open to all residents and anybody is entitled to speak at this meeting.
This year it is being held entirely separate from the parish council meetings and refreshments will be provided from 7pm; the meeting starts at 7.30.

Recently a decision was made to change ward boundaries which resulted in Swardeston becoming part of the new Mulbarton and Stoke Holy Cross ward.
A community governance review is now underway from 20 March until February 2018. This review could change your parish boundary and you can make your views known byt completing the survey.

Swardeston Parish Council has 7 elected members who represent and serve the local community. They meet on the second Thursday of every month at Swardeston village hall meetings commence at 7:30pm. All meetings are open to members of the public.
Elections are held every four years and the last one was held on 7th May 2015.
Copies of agendas are posted in advance for all meetings on the Parish Council notice board which is situated on the wall of the bakery in Main Road.
Minutes of previous meetings are available from the top menu by selecting “meetings”. The last meeting minutes are draft until approved at the following meeting, for more information please contact the clerk.
The Transparency Code requires the parish council to publish certain information.
