  • Better Broadband for Norfolk Project – New Communications Cabinet for Swardeston

    You may have heard about the Better Broadband for Norfolk (BBfN) Project which is facilitating the provision of Superfast Broadband in areas of Norfolk where installation is not commercially viable.

    A new communications cabinet (reference BBfN Mulbarton 15) is to be installed in the grass verge, opposite Town Cottage, The Common, Swardeston, (5.5m left of the existing BT pole no 75 and 1.8m back from road edge) to serve residents & businesses in the immediate surrounding area. No date for installation is currently available, however the BBfN Programme is due to complete by the end of March 2020.

    You can check to see which BT structure your property is served from and available speeds using the BT Wholesale Line Checker https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm.
    Search using the Address Checker option, then enter your postcode, press submit and select your address from the list.

    Once a fibre solution is available a “VDSL” option will be shown. Prior to implementation copper based broadband speeds are shown as “ADSL”.

  • Greater Norwich Local Plan

    A consultation  is underway on The Greater Norwich  Local Plan and runs to 15 March 2018. This is your chance to have your say on the future strategic policies and development in the Greater Norwich Area which includes Swardeston.

  • Hornsea Offshore Windfarm

    A major development is planned that will have an impact on Swardeston and other areas around Norwich as the cable route from the wind turbines off the east coast will deliver energy to a substation in the Mangreen area.

    DONG Energy, the company developing the wind farm have held a number of consultations and a further one is planned for 4th September 2017 from 15:00 to 19:00 at Swardeston village hall.

    there is a statutory consultation underway under section 42 of the Planning Act 2008 and the planning application will be determined by The Planning Inspectorate.

  • Defibrillator for Swardeston

    The parish council has installed a defibrillator with the assistance of The British Heart Foundation.

    Training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (also known as CPR) was delivered to a number of people within the village as part of the support from the East of England Ambulance Service.

    The defibrillator is located on the side wall of Production Bureau in Main Road and is checked on a daily basis.

  • The Emerging Local Plan

    The local plan that was formally adopted in October 2015 will run to 2026. South Norfolk Council in conjunction with Norwich City and Broadland councils are working together to produce a new Greater Norwich Local Plan.

  • Communication

    There are two notice boards in the village, the parish council’s notice board is on the wall of the bakery in Main Road. Statutory notices, notices of parish council meetings and copies of meeting minutes are published here.

    There is also a notice board on the wall at the village hall which is used to keep residents informed about a variety of issues and events.

    We also have a facebook page and would welcome comments on the information you would like to receive.

  • Swardeston Parish Council

    Swardeston Parish Council has 7 elected members who represent and serve the local community. They meet on the second Thursday of every month at Swardeston village hall meetings commence at 7:30pm. All meetings are open to members of the public.

    Elections are held every four years and the last one was held on 2nd May 2019.

    Copies of agendas are posted in advance for all meetings on the Parish Council notice board which is situated on the wall of the bakery in Main Road.

    Minutes of previous meetings are available from the top menu by selecting “meetings”. The last meeting minutes are draft until approved at the following meeting, for more information please contact the clerk.
